The 648C Printer from Hewlett Packard is a 3 page per minute parallel inkjet printer suitable for running reports from Manager or Manager32. If it is to be used only by DOS programs, no printer driver is required. Its only drawback with DOS programs is that the power light continues to blink after the document is complete. This does not prevent it from printing subsequent documents, and can be ignored by the operator.
InstallationIf used only by DOS programs, the only action is to plug it into the parallel port using a standard parallel cable. If it is to be used by Windows programs, the driver supplied with the printer must be installed, and an IEEE1284 compliant parallel cable should be used.
Ink CartridgesThe 648C will not operate unless both the color and the b/w cartridges are installed. The color cartridge should be type 49 and is installed on the left side. The b/w cartridge is a type 20 and is installed on the right. Cartridge replacement is as follows:
1. Remove and dispose of the old cartridge.
2. Remove the tape from the bottom of the new cartridge.
3. Insert the cartridge bottom first with the arrow on top pointing towards the printer.
4. Push the top all the way in.Troubleshooting
If the printer does not print, check the following:
* If no lights are on, try pressing the power button on the right front of the printer.
* Verify there is paper in the tray.
* Verify that both cartridges are snapped in place and the lid is completely closed.
* If the Resume light is flashing, press the Resume button.
* Check the cable connection on both ends.
* Reboot both the printer and the computer.Revisions
