Caller ID Module Telcomp Ver 4.3

    Last edited: December 15, 2003 08:07 AM

The Caller ID module consists of a Telcomp PCCLID-8 interface box and PICKUPS interface software.  The interface box is connected to a COM port of any workstation.  It should not be connected to a server. Styling must be done to the application to prompt for and receive the phone number as simulated keyboard input.

When the phone rings, the order taker presses the appropriate line button in Touchnet which loads the phone number into the system and automatically pulls up the callers customer information and last order. If the Caller ID information is not available to the application, it opens a window telling the order taker to enter the number manually.
    Installation

      1. Install the PCCLID-8 interface box by running a phone cord from each incoming line to the appropriate port on the back of the box. Jacks to plug in to should already be provided by the customer prior to installation and should be located within 10 feet of the workstation being interfaced to.  If the store has a phone system, the interface must be connected to the lines as they run into thestore, not after they run through the stores phone system.
      2. Connect the serial cable between the RS-232 OUT port on the interface box and the COM port(usually COM2 for a workstation, COM1 for an Immage, and COM3 for a Javelin).
      3. On the server MAIN, place the Telcomp program disk in the floppy drive, go to A:, and type: INSTALLN C:TELCOMP
      4. When asked for the type of install, select PICKUPS.
      5. When the program displays the Serial Number and the Install Code, Telcomp must be called at (407)-889-7377.  They will give an Authorization Code to enter into the system.  This will allow the install process to complete.
      6. Repeat steps 3 through 5, this time selecting PICKUP.  The same Authorization Code can be used.
      7. Unzip CALLERID.ZIP containing TOUCH8.ARG, and STATION.ARG into the TELCOMP directory created by the install.
      8. On the workstation interfaced to the box add the following commands to the AUTOEXEC.BAT immediately prior to the CDTOUCHNET… command:
          CDTELCOMP
          PICKUPS TOUCH8.ARG
      9. On all other workstations add the commands:
          CDTELCOMP
          PICKUP STATION.ARG
      10. If the interface box is connected to anything other than COM2, edit TOUCH8.ARG and change PORT=2 to the correct COM port number.
      11. Style the application to use Caller ID.  See CALLERID.STY for details.

    Technical

PICKUPS monitors the serial port defined in TOUCH8.ARG(the default is COM2) for Caller ID information captured by the interface box.  It then writes this information to data files in the TELCOMP directory. These files include LINE.DAT which holds the last transmission, LINE01.DAT,LINE02.dat,…  which hold the last transmission for that
line, and LOG.DAT which maintains a continuous log of all transmissions received.  It also monitors the keyboard for certain hot keys, to include Alt-1, Alt-2, etc.  When these hot keys are detected, PICKUPS passes the last transmission on that line to the keyboard port where it is picked up by Touchnet.  PICKUP, which is run on stations other than the one interfaced to the phone, performs the same functions except that it does not monitor a serial port for input.  PICKUPS should not be run on the server as there have been some reported cases of conflicts in
controlling the port, causing lost data or PICKUPS to crash.  If the box is interfaced to other than COM2, edit the TOUCH8.ARG file and change the PORT=2 command to the correct port.
