The Star TUP482 is a thermal printer designed to run inside a kiosk. It uses an extra large paper roll to allow for longer operations times between changing. The TUP482 can be serial or parallel. It requires being reconfigured into Line Mode prior to installation, after which it can use standard Star print codes.
Configuration [img:32ahvh73]http://www.possupport.net/dealer/kbase/images/starkios.gif[/img:32ahvh73]
Configuration is performed with the DOS utility [color=red:32ahvh73][u:32ahvh73]DEFAULTS.EXE[/u:32ahvh73][/color:32ahvh73][/url:32ahvh73]. To configure, perform the following:
1. Run DEFAULTS.
2. Select option 1 – Communications Port, then select the port the printer is currently connected to.
3. Select option 2 – Printer Model, then select option 4 – TUP482.
4. Select option 3 – Operating Mode, then select option 1 – Line Mode.
5. Option 4 – Start Position Detect Mode can be skipped as the default of Off is correct.
6. Select option 5 – Set Default Memory Switch Settings, then press any key to get past the information screen displayed prior to actually transmitting to the printer. This option communicates the previously defined options to the printer.
7. Select option 6 – Exit Memory Switch Program to return to DOS.Lights
On the right side toward the rear is a bank of three red lights. During normal operations all lights should be off. If any lights are on, the printer is in an error condition as follows:
Error Name Error Cause Error LED Head Up LED No Paper LED
Head Up The head is not in position. On
No Paper Out of paper. On
Bad Command An illegal command was sent. On
Bad Cut The paper was not cut properly. On On
Bad Transmit The received data was invalid. On On
Off Line Incorrect configuration, output too small to trigger presenter, or paper jam. On On On
TroubleshootingThe power switch is located on the external power supply. A green power LED, located on the opposite end of the power supply from the switch, should be lit. If any of the red lights on the right rear of the printer are lit, the printer is in an error condition. See the previous section for details.
Self test is performed as follows:
1. Turn the power on by holding down the Resume button on the right side of the printer.
2. Hold down the Resume button for two seconds or longer, then let it up. If watching the red lights, you will see the lights change when it is OK to release the Resume button.
3. The printer will start printing continuous self-tests until powered off and back on normally. The printer can be tested the same as per other printers, using the DOS copy command. Note that the presenter will not eject the paper until enough lines have been printed(app. 16 to 17) to be detected by the sensor. The configuration utility described previously can also be used as it will return an error if it cannot detect the printer when option 5 – Set Switch Settings is executed. This option also generates a self test, when complete.
CablingBoth serial and parallel cables are the same as for other Star printer models.
