Using the Quirky Table Number Variable
The Table Number variable is kind of quirky. You use it as a string in EditPRO, but it’s stored as an Integer in the journal file.
What does that mean to you?
Let’s say that you set the Table Number variable equal to “A20” for a check and close it. Manager and all other reporting modules will show that table number as 0. The reason is simple, the value of “A” is 0. However, if you set Table Number equal to “20A”, reporting modules will show “20”.
If your customer has an alpha based numbering scheme, you have two options:
1. Use alpha characters in EditPRO/TouchPRO and lose historical reporting on table numbers.
2. Do not use alpha characters. Substitute the customer’s alpha character request by convincing them to move to a new numbering scheme. For instance: Suggest that “A” is replaced by “1”, “B” is replaced by “2”. Table “A26” would become “126”.
