    VIP STARTUP OUTLINE

    1) Software Installation
    2) Software Registration
    3) Sign On Procdure
    4) Define Options
    Software Installation

    Requirements
    IBM Compatible 286 or better
    DOS Ver 3.3 or greater(NOTE:MSDOS V6.0 causes buffer instability,UPGRADE!)
    530k  Conventional Ram
    Files = 40 (Config.sys)
    6 Mb Free Space on Hard Drive

    Place Disk #1 in the floppy drive and type:

    A:INSTALL  (Where A: is the floppy drive)

    Follow the on screen prompts.  The install will prompt to modify your config.sys and autoexec.bat files to include the following statements:

        In CONFIG.SYS:
          FILES=40  (or greater)

        In AUTOEXEC.BAT:
          SET OVERLAY_HEAP=1

    If you choose not to automatically modify these files, be sure to add or modify these files to include these statements.
    WINDOWS 3.1 Installs

        In AUTOEXEC.BAT add:
          SET VIPFAX=C:WINDOWSVIPFAX

    This directory contains necessary files for WINDOWS use. To add a VIP program group – Select Program Manager, FILE, NEW, PROGRAM GROUP.  In the GROUP FILE field (leave description blank), enter C:VIPWINDOWSVIP.GRP. This will add a new program group for VIP with the necessary icons.  (VIPFAX is a utility used by VIP to direct output to the default windows printer.)

    VIP requires an “ACTUATOR” software protection device to be installed on LPT1.  Without the “ACTUATOR” the software reverts to DEMO mode and the user may only access the TRAINING files.  This device is fully compatible with TOUCH MENUS HASP and KEY devices when it is necessary to stack them.  You can not register without the “ACTUATOR”.

    To run VIP from DOS type VIP at the C:VIP directory.
    To run VIP from WINDOWS click on the VIP icon in the VIP group.
    TOUCH MENUS DRIVER

    This driver (interface) pulls the sales from TouchMenus into VIP. As of 3/15/95, this driver is not finished.  There is a driver that can be used however located in the N:KBASEJOU2INV directory called VIP_TM.ZIP.  This file contains this document file and a driver called TCHMENU.EXE.  Put VIP.ZIP in the C:VIP directory and unzip. This driver will suffice for most operations.  To explain – VIP wants to know what revenue center to credit for the sale of each item, this driver looks at Code 1021,Amount 2 in the Journal file for the revenue center.  This location is where the
    Number 1 variable is stored with the check. This is not a problem for applications where the Number 1 variable can used for this specific purpose, but with pizza applications we use Number 1 for Time Stamping the check. In this case we can place a dummy file called TMENU.PZA in the C:VIP directory. The dummy file will cause the driver to force the revenue center to 1.

    To install the driver, place the TCHMENU.EXE file in the C:VIP directory and type TCHMENU, it will create the proper files and directories. Next you must define the location of the PRODUCT.DAT files for each revenue center.  Use DOS’s Editor to edit the GETSALES.DEF file in the C:VIPDRIVER directory. The file is a text file with documentation inside explaining how to define the locations.  You will also need to define within VIP the location of the driver and data files for each revenue center.  When you define a new revenue center, you will have a field labeled Path of ECR Data files, this refers to the path where the Journal files are located for this specific revenue center(ie- C:TOUCHNETTESTREPORTS).

    You will also have to fill in a field labeled Path of Driver Program, type in DRIVER in this field.( This is the directory where the GETSALES.DEF and GETSALES.EXE file are located.)

    For more detailed installation information see VIP manual pages 13 – 16.
    SOFTWARE REGISTRATION

    When you run VIP you will be prompted to register or you can run the registration program by typing REGISTER at the C:VIPSYSTEM directory.  Fill in the fields with the required information and select PRINT REGISTRATION.  MAIL, FAX or UPLOAD(if you printed to file) to the support department at VIP.

    For more detailed registration information see VIP manual pages 17 & 18.
    SIGN ON PROCEDURE

    When you run VIP you must go through a sign on procedure similar to our Login procedure to let VIP know who is using the system for security purposes.  When the USER ACCESS SIGN-ON screen appears, select a user (the default is General Manager), press enter and enter the appropriate password(the default is PASSWORD). (NOTE: The password is case insensitive.)

    For more detailed sign on information see VIP manual pages 19 & 20.

    The hardware is now configured it is time to set up the software.  This process basically consists of defining the categories,buy/sell units, vendors, stock areas, revenue centers, inventory stock items, re-order levels, recipes, etc.  This is a long process and can be best explained by VIP. Go into the online help by pressing F1, select TOPICS, select the subject entitled “Getting Started”, press ENTER and read each of the subjects under “Getting Started”. The online help is very extensive and can answer most of your questions. You can also use the VIP manual, to find any subject in the manual use the Table of Contents in the beginning.
