The Epson TM-U200 is a 40 column dot matrix printer.  Features include red/black print, autocutter, 3.5 lines per second print speed, and a low failure rate. It is ideal for use as a kitchen printer.  It does not support logo or barcode printing.

Note: The TM-U200 has been replaced by the TM-U220, however the TM-U200 is still widely used and fully supported.

    [b:avj92j4a]Dip Switches[/b:avj92j4a]

There are two banks of dip switches accessible by removing a cover plate on the bottom of the printer. Switches 2 and 4 on bank 2 should always be set to On. All other switches on both banks are set to Off. This is the factory default.

[*:avj92j4a]Power(Green) – Always On, if printer is turned on and receiving power.[/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a]Error(Red) – Normally Off. When On solid, the printer is off-line. If Flashing, then an internal error condition has occurred. See the Troubleshooting section.[/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a]Paper Out(Red) – Normally Off.  When On solid, the printer is out of paper. If running a self-test, this light will flash.

A standard 3″ paper roll is used in the TM-U200.  To load the paper, lift open the lid and swing the autocutter up and out of the way.  Insert the paper as shown in the diagram to the right and on the lid of the printer.  Press Paper Feed to feed the printer through the paper path.  Cut the paper on the manual cutter, close the autocutter, then close the lid.  If the Paper Out light is flashing, press the Paper Feed button.  The paper roll should be oriented so the paper curls to the back as it comes out of the printer.

    [b:avj92j4a]Ribbon[/b:avj92j4a]  [img:avj92j4a]http://www.possupport.net/dealer/kbase/images/u200-3.jpg[/img:avj92j4a]

A ribbon specifically designed for the TM-U200 is required.  The Epson ERC-38 ribbon is recommended.  To change the ribbon, lift open the lid and swing the autocutter up and out of the way. Insert the ribbon as shown in the diagram to the right and on the lid of the printer, making sure that the ribbon is installed between the print head and the platen.  Press down on the ribbon until it clicks, close the autocutter, then close the lid.

    [b:avj92j4a]Power Supply[/b:avj92j4a]  [img:avj92j4a]http://www.possupport.net/dealer/kbase/images/u200-1.jpg[/img:avj92j4a]

The Epson TM-U200 uses an external 33VDC 1A adapter model number PB-6509.

    [b:avj92j4a]Cash Drawers[/b:avj92j4a]

The TM-U200 can drive up to two cash drawers through an RJ11 port labeled DK located underneath the printer. The TM-U200 requires cash drawers equipped with 24V solenoids. Do not use 12V drawers typically supplied for Star printers.

    [b:avj92j4a]Cables[/b:avj92j4a]

For serial printers, a female DB25 connector is provided. Cabling is the same as for Star printers.

    [b:avj92j4a]Troubleshooting[/b:avj92j4a]

After a normal power up, the Power light should be on, and all other lights should be off. If the printer does not operate or has malfunctioned, check the following items:

    [list:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]Self Test:[/b:avj92j4a] Turn the power OFF. Next, hold down PAPER FEED while turning the printer power ON. This will generate the first part of the self test containing internal information about the printer, and then leave the Paper Out light flashing. Press FEED again and an alphanumeric pattern will print for about five more seconds.
    [/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]No Power:[/b:avj92j4a] The TM-U200 uses an external power supply that should be plugged firmly into the power connector underneath the printer.  The power switch is located on the front of the printer.
    [/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]Paper Out Light On:[/b:avj92j4a] Printer is out of paper or the paper is not properly fed through the paper path.
    [/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]Error Light On Solid:[/b:avj92j4a] The printer is off line.  Turn the printer off and back on.[/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]Error Light Flashing:[/b:avj92j4a] A hardware error has occurred. Check and see if the paper is jamming the print head.  If not, and the problem can’t be corrected by turning the computer off and back on, then the printer needs to be repaired.[/*:m:avj92j4a]
[*:avj92j4a][b:avj92j4a]A Line of Dots is Missing in the Printout:[/b:avj92j4a] If this is the top or bottom row, check to see if the ribbon is riding high or low over the print head.  Otherwise, the printer needs to be repaired.
