    Installing Windows98 on a Liberty3

    Last edited: December 15, 2003 08:20 AM

    This document details how Touch Menus installs and configures Windows98.  It is written specifically for installation on the Liberty3, but most steps would be the same for other systems.  Note that some programs, such as FasTouch may require additional configuration not covered in this document.
    Pre-Installation Steps

    In-house Note:  Steps marked with an asterisk (*) can be done using the appropriate Superdisk2000.

      1. Configure the CMOS as necessary.  For the Liberty3, press DEL on boot to enter CMOS setup.  On the first screen set the date and time.  In Advanced CMOS set Wait F1 if error to Disabled.  In Power Management set Power Management/APM to Disabled.  In Peripheral Setup, set Onboard Sound Chip to Disabled.
      2. * If the disk has not yet been partitioned, run FDISK.  It is recommended that FAT16 be used initially to allow non-Windows utilities such as the Superdisk2000 to be used for initially copying and installation of files.
      3. * If the disk has not yet been formatted, run FORMAT /S.
      4. * Copy in all directories and files needed for DOS programs running on this station or any station that will network to it.

    Installation

      1. Copy the Win98 folder from M: to C:.  If not in-house, create a Win98 folder and copy all the necessary files from wherever you keep Windows98.
      2. Run Setup from the Win98 folder to install Windows.  For the In-house copy, use Product Key F4T4B-FGFFP-B9Q82-VXXP7-GRV98.  Select all default options and give it the name MAINSETUP.
      3. Install Realtek 8139 network card drivers from floppy as follows:

            * Put the Realtek driver floppy in the drive.
            * From the taskbar click on Start.
            * Click on Settings.
            * Click on Control Panel.
            * Click on Add New Hardware.
            * Click on Next, Next to skip through the first two screens.
            * On the Do You Want Windows to Search for New Hardware screen, select No, and click on Next.
            * On the Select Hardware screen, select Network Adapter and click on Next.
            * Click on Have Disk.
            * Verify that the path is A: and click on OK.
            * Select RTL8139 Fast Ethernet Adapter and click on Next as many times as need and Finished on the final screen.
            * Restart Windows.

      4. Configure network components as follows:

            * From the taskbar click on Start.
            * Click on Settings.
            * Click on Control Panel.
            * Click on Network.
            * If NetBEUI does not exist in the Installed Network Components list, click Add, select Protocol and click Add, select Microsoft from the Manufacturers list and NetBEUI from the Network Protocols list, and click on OK.
            * If IPX/SPX exists in the Installed Network Components list, highlight it and click Remove.
            * If any components now exist other than for Client for Microsoft Networks, Realtek 8139, and NetBEUI, remove them.
            * Click on the Identification tab and type Support in the Workgroup field, TMCU (or appropriate description) in the Computer Description field, and MainSetup in the Computer Name Field.
            * Click OK to save your settings.
            * Restart Windows.

      5. Copy the Touch Menus Setup Files folder from \MAIND to C:.  If not in-house, copy or install all Windows components from whatever source is available.
      6. If this will function as a touchscreen, such as for FasTouch, install the Elographics drivers from floppy.
      7. Install the SIS Video Drivers by running Setup from the C:Touch Menus Setup FilesLiberty3 Driverssis530WIN9X folder.
      8. Install Lantastic by running Setup from the C:Touch Menus Setup FilesLantastic8 Install Files folder.  When prompted, select the following options:
