Last edited: December 15, 2003 08:09 AMThe 524J is a multiport I/O card that can provide up to two additional serial ports and two additional parallel ports. Jumpers are used to configure the ports. Additionally, a CMOS change is required if it is installed into a CPU with an onboard parallel port.
CMOSEven though the parallel ports on the 524J are configured as LPT2 and LPT3, they use I/O addresses for LPT1 and LPT2. If this is being installed into a CPU that already contains an LPT1 port, the CMOS must be changed to have LPT1 use I/O address 3BC. For the Liberty CPU, this is done as follows:
1. Push Delete while booting the system to get into the CMOS settings.
2. Select Peripheral Setup.
3. Highlight Onboard Parallel Port.
4. Push Page Down repeatedly to select 3BC/IRQ7.
5. Push Esc to return to the menu.
6. Select Save & Exit Setup.Configuration
Using the jumper settings as defined in the next section, the ports will be configured as follows:
Serial Port A COM3 IRQ9 3E8h DB9 male on I/O board
Serial Port B COM4 IRQ3 2E8h DB9 male on expansion slot
Parallel Port A LPT2 IRQ7 378h DB25 female on I/O board
Parallel Port B LPT3 IRQ5 278h DB25 female on expansion slot
Jumpers
JP1 -1 1-2 Shorted Serial A IRQ9 Change from factory setting
-2 2-3 Shorted Serial B IRQ3
-3 Open Change from factory setting
JP2 -1 1-2 Shorted Serial B COM4 Change from factory setting
-2 2-3 Shorted Serial A COM3 Change from factory setting
-3 Open Change from factory setting
-4 Open Change from factory setting
JP3 -1 1-2 Shorted Par B LPT3
-2 2-3 Shorted Par A LPT2
JP4 -1 1-2 Shorted Par A IRQ7
-2 2-3 Shorted Par B IRQ5
Notes: Watch out for JP1. It is 3X3 and can be confused as to which way is up. It is actually oriented the same as JP3 and JP4. It is at right angles to JP2. WARNING: The original document is incorrect for JP1. Use the board ID numbers or the illustration above showing JP1-1 in the middle, with JP1-3 on the left, and JP1-2 on the right.
