Last edited: December 15, 2003 08:18 AMpartner.gif (12612 bytes)The Partner PT3000 from TouchPOS was given a preliminary evaluation for it’s ability to function as a workstation running TouchPro. Further development would be necessary before the PT3000 could be approved as a Touch Menus product. The unit evaluated contained a Pentium-MMX 233MHZ processor with 32MB memory, a 3GB HD and an Award BIOS.
CMOSPush Del on bootup to enter CMOS setup. Use the arrow keys to move between options and Page Up/Down keys to change options.
NetworkThe PT3000 comes with an NE2000 compatible Ethernet port. Standard NE2000 DOS drivers did not work with the port, nor did the supplied Windows drivers.
VideoThe display is a 12.1″ active matrix 800×600. TouchPro’s 640×480 display mode is displayed full screen, but with button images and other horizontal lines chopped up.
TouchThe Partner uses an Elographics touchscreen. It should work with standard DOS Elographics drivers, but exact parameters for EloDev have yet to be worked out.
PowerPower is provided by a 170 watt external power supply model PP3-3170FA, which connects to the workstation using dual DIN connectors. An on-off switch is located on the top right side of the workstation underneath a plastic cover.
HardwareThe Partner can be adjusted on its base to be angled between horizontal and 45 degrees. The hard disk is located inside the base.
PortsPorts are accessible by first removing the rear base cover, disconnecting the customer display, then unlatching and swinging open the port cover. The Partner includes two DB9 COM ports, one DB25 EPP/ECP parallel port, and one PS2 KB port. A floppy disk can only be connected with the back base cover removed.
Cash DrawersThere is one cash drawer port capable of driving two cash drawers, but a modification would be needed to Touchnet to drive the port.
Customer DisplayAn optional 2×20 customer display mounts to the rear of the base and can swivel between 20 and 45 degrees. A modification would have to be made to Touchnet to drive the customer display.
Mag Stripe ReaderThe PT3000 contains a mag stripe reader mounted on the right side of the workstation. Data from the reader is passed through the keyboard port.
